NanoSyrinx is a discovery stage synthetic biology company, spun out of the University of Warwick, creating a next-generation platform technology for the targeted intracellular delivery of biological molecules.
Many therapeutics need access to the interiors of cells, where the machinery of life is busy going about its tasks. Historically, reaching the interior of cells with therapeutic molecules has been a recalcitrant problem. Nanosyrinx’s technology – the Nanosyringe – offers a potential solution to the “undruggable cell” problem, where 85% of proteins are currently considered ‘undruggable’ with current therapeutic approaches. The technology works by selectively binding to the cell surface via specific cell-targeting ‘arms’. In a wholly unique mode of action, the Nanosyringe actively pierces the membrane (like a syringe - hence the name) and delivers the payload directly into the cytosol.
